What to Expect When Working with a Brand Designer Like Myself

If you’re looking to create a new brand or refresh an existing one, you’ll likely need to work with a brand designer. Brand designers, like myself, are experts in creating cohesive visual identities for businesses. I can help you develop a style guide, logo, website, and other branding materials. In this blog post, I’ll discuss what to expect when working with a brand designer like me. I’ll also provide tips on how to get the most out of your collaboration!

Step one: the discovery process working with a brand designer

When working together, you can expect to go through an initial discovery process. This is where you’ll share your business goals and objectives with me. We’ll discuss a timeline of events and what you can expect throughout our time together. This includes how we will communicate, payment terms, and timeline of events for your project.

I will also ask you preliminary questions about your target audience and what kind of message you want to communicate with your branding. This step includes any competitor brands you like or seek inspiration from. All of this information helps me get an idea of the overall vibe you’re going for.

For web design, I’ll ask about the following information:

  • Do you have an existing website or will this be brand new?
  • Which pages of content do you need designed? Home, about, services, etc…
  • Do you need copywriting as well, or just design

For branding, I’ll ask about the following information:

  • Have you have any previous branding/design work done before? If so, what didn’t you like about it?
  • Do you need a logo?
  • What colors do you like?
  • What is the vibe you’re going for?
  • What is the key message you want your brand presence to say to someone?

Based on this information, I will create a mood board and concept sketches for your brand and/or website. You’ll receive these items electronically for us to discuss over Zoom together. This takes about 20-30 minutes to create an open discussion between us. This is a great opportunity for you to give feedback and help shape the direction of the project.

Step two: development and refinement

Once the discovery process is complete and all feedback has been collected, it’s time to start working on the actual branding materials. This is where your dream and vision really start to take shape. Usually, I can’t help myself and will send you fun little updates along the way – hey, we’re family now, ok?!

I then will present you with preliminary designs for your approval. We’ll walk through them again over Zoom to provide another chance for open dialogue. At this stage, you can provide feedback and request any changes you’d like to see. If necessary, I’ll make any revisions and then we’ll move on to the next step.

Step three: finalization and delivery

After you’ve approved the designs, I’ll finalize all of the files, whether branding elements and/or website design and deliver them to you. These files should be stored in a safe place as you will need them for any items you’d like to place your logo or branding elements on going forward. You’ll receive several different file types to provide maximum flexibility throughout your branding and business journey.

You will then have everything you need to launch your new brand! If you have any questions or need help along the way, I’m always just an email away.
